i have spent a lot of time in record shops.
from all the days spent listening to music and talking shit. three moments probably stand out above all others. the first is from early 2000, heading into synastheasia and finding a copy of venetian snares ‘greg loves car culture.’ it was my first experience of breakcore and i rapidly fell into the world of distroted amens, gnarly synths and messy sampling. about twelve months later i was in slap records they had a copy of rewind 002, that record blended most of the other music i was listening to into one amazingly crafted sound. finally, i was shopping in Mark N’s shop, and found the 12 with artbreaker’s ‘fuck your shit up like this’ on it.
since then it would be fair to say i have had a lot to do with artbreaker, appearing on releases together, sharing tacks, remixing each other his releasing my music. in the last couple of years the grindthieves blog has been an amazing source of music and inspiration for me, from breakcore; to dubstep, to grindcore. the ‘good music is good music’ ethos that seems to govern grindthieves is something i really connect with. if an artist wants to play some ghetto tek, glitchy house or gabba in a jungle set and can make it work then why not do it.
in that spirit chuck this mix on your mp3 player and take a walk down a crowded street or through the park and enjoy the journey through dubstep, breaks, hip hop, jungle and aussie pop music.
