The year of 2009 has brought copious amounts of heavy tunes from all over the globe ranging from the nether regions of North Dakota, USA to Zavolzhie, Russia. Ragga Scum takes a look at his top 10 tracks of the year.

RCola – Beat The System ft Soultrain

Rebel music for the ragga mind as RCola brings on the old school vibe in his rendition of Beat The System. Using the lyrics of Soultrain, combined with a 90s style bassline, this production rains positive vibes. The tune keeps pace all through its entire 7 minutes and 12 seconds of play time, perfect time for teaser drops and long mixing.

PsychoFreud and Sunjammer – Murda Dem

Warning: Playing this tune on a large system has been known to make party goers vomit from the over powering bass. This is not a bad thing at all. Oh my! Oh my! The sub bass genius of this tune is absolute perfection. Combine that with the ruffneck rasta vocals, superior drum work, and filter cuts; Murda Dem hold true to its name. If you do not own this tune, I highly suggest it for your arsenal.

OSCI – Fuck Da Bomboclaat Police

A hard Amen smasher remixing Rage’s interpretation of Fuck The Police brought originally by NWA in 1988. This remix has been proven to make dance floors explode with its high energy Amens and old school bassline. An awesome display of drum work throughout this whole track.

Diamond Geezer – As A Man

With over 30 tracks released this year, Diamond Geezer is one of the most active producers in ragga jungle today and it shows why with this tune. As A Man brings the OG’s back to the 90s era of the music with its composition of Amen drums and 909 bass kicks. The tune sounds like what would happen if Remarc and Public Enemy had a bastard child baby from a raved out one night stand.

D-Jahsta – Steppin Wild

D-Jahsta comes hard on his first tune release producing very militant, rolling original Amen drums overlaying with traditional Amen work. Using great vocal cuts on top of intense FX and piano rolls, the five minute and thirty second tune holds true to its title. If that weren’t enough for you, the low grumbling sub bass will surely hit the dancefloor with a gut wrenching force.

Top Cat- Sweetest Ting (Benny Page & Marcus Visionary rmx)

UK badman, Benny Page and Canada’s top dog, Marcus Visionary remix the 1995 classic Sweetest Thing by Top Cat off of the 9 Lives imprint. Keeping the dancehall/reggae roots the duo transforms this tune into a party hopping ragga-jungle smasher. With a feel good vibe in the drum work and bassline this joint is perfect at any point in a set, for any crowd.

HoT – Policeman & Soldiers ft. Alberosie

HoT brings the heat with the lyrical styling of Alberosie in Policeman & Soldiers. This tune is prime example of rough and rugged combined with clean production. HoT will definitely be a producer to keep an eye on for years to come. His use of a deep, dark bassline and powerful Amens make this track a must have in any ones record collection.

FeyDer – Bad Radio

FeyDer comes correct as he normally does with this hard amen smasher tune. Intense amen drum work full of divine cuts and fills rally the accompanying vocal perfectly. This tune has been known to cause riot like frenzies on dance floors all around the world.

Chopstick Dubplate – Jungle King ft. Wildlife

North American ragga-jungle pioneers, Chopstick Dubplate, team up with Wildlife in this original off of Chopstick’s new EP, Chopstick Meets River Nile. Grimey vocals by Wildlife make this tune an upcoming ruffneck anthem for junglists around the globe. Shadowing this vocal is a gripping low-end bassline that rips through the crowd.

HoT – Ring Di Alarm

Pure fire as Russian based producer HoT remixes Tenor Saw’s Ring The Alarm from 1985. Classic Amens with the touch of heat ride through an old school jump-up like bassline. HoT’s interpretation come with it and hits hard. Most likely the best remix of this tune heard before.
